Emiliano Zapata was a revolutionary leader from Morelos and one of the most famous figures of the Mexican Revolution. He fought for land reform and defended the rights of rural communities, especially peasants whose lands had been taken or threatened.

Zapata is strongly associated with the phrase “Tierra y Libertad” and the Plan de Ayala. For citizenship learners, he represents agrarian justice, rural resistance, and the idea that the Revolution was not only about changing presidents but also about social rights and land.
