Ignacio Allende was a military officer and early leader of the Mexican independence movement. He worked with Miguel Hidalgo, Juan Aldama, and others in the conspiracy that helped spark the uprising against Spanish rule.

Allende brought military experience to the insurgent cause and is remembered as one of the first major independence heroes. For citizenship learners, he helps show that independence was not the work of one person alone, but of a network of organizers, officers, priests, and civilians.
