José María Pino Suárez was a lawyer, journalist, poet, and politician who served as vice president under Francisco I. Madero. He supported Madero’s democratic project during the early years of the Mexican Revolution.

Pino Suárez was killed along with Madero after the coup known as the Decena Trágica. For citizenship learners, he matters as a symbol of loyalty to constitutional democracy and as one of the martyrs of the revolutionary struggle against dictatorship.
