The Pame, also known as Xiiuy, live mainly in San Luis Potosi and Queretaro. Many Pame communities are associated with the Huasteca and Sierra Gorda regions, areas known for cultural and ecological diversity.
For citizenship learners, the Pame are useful for understanding Indigenous presence in north-central Mexico. Their Xiiuy identity connects language, region, and community life, and it helps show that Mexico’s Indigenous map includes many smaller peoples as well as the largest language groups.
