The Aztec emperor was the father of the princess Iztaccíhuatl and the ruler of Tenochtitlan. When Popocatépetl asked for his daughter’s hand, the emperor accepted on one condition: the young warrior had to go to war and return victorious. The rival warrior told his lie to the emperor as well, so the emperor also believed that Popocatépetl had died in battle.
