The Cenote Zací is a great, partially collapsed cavern about forty-five meters across, filled with green water. In the legend it stood in the center of the Maya city of Zací, with the healer’s home above its vault, and it became the tomb of the two lovers and the object of the healer’s curse.

Today it lies in the middle of the city of Valladolid, Yucatán, and is one of the few cenotes located inside a city. Visitors can swim in its waters — though the legend says that once a year, when the green water turns dark, the cenote claims a life.
