The Mayab is the land of the Maya, in Mexico’s Yucatán peninsula. Its name is often explained as “the land of the chosen,” and thanks to this legend it is also known as “the land of the pheasant and the deer.”

In the legend, Itzamná created it as the most beautiful land in the world, full of flowers, birds, cenotes, and caverns, and gave it to the Maya people — who, according to the prophecy, will one day win it back.
