Vicente Guerrero was an independence hero who became president in 1829. He is remembered for continuing the insurgency late in the War of Independence and for abolishing slavery during his presidency.

For study purposes, Guerrero connects the Independence movement with early republican politics and the anti-slavery tradition in Mexico.
