The Decena Trágica, or Ten Tragic Days, was the violent coup in February 1913 that overthrew President Francisco I. Madero. Madero and Vice President José María Pino Suárez were murdered afterward.

For learners, this event is important because it turned the Revolution away from Madero’s democratic presidency and into renewed armed conflict against Victoriano Huerta.
